I have been a teacher in Brookline for 32
years. I started my career as a
third grade teacher at Baker School and then became a literacy specialist. After teaching at Baker School for 26
years, I was chosen to be the English Language Arts Curriculum Coordinator for
all 8 Brookline elementary schools.
Although I enjoyed that job, especially being able to impact the
literacy education of all Brookline elementary students, I realized that
my true calling was teaching.
I came to the Lawrence School after my year as
the Curriculum Coordinator, six years ago. I always tell people how lucky I am to have landed at
Lawrence! As a literacy specialist
at the school, I go into all of the first grade classrooms and work with the
teachers on writing instruction. I
also am one of the LLI (Leveled Literacy Intervention) teachers, working with
students in grades 3, 4 and 5.
This year, I will also do intervention in the middle school grades. The work I do with students in LLI
groups strengthens their ability to read and understand texts, and to write
about that understanding.
At Lawrence I was also the Mentor Facilitator
for four years, which involved working with staff new to Lawrence. I am currently serving as the
facilitator for the Upper Grade Child Study Team. In this role, I meet with a team of teachers to discuss
strategies for working with individual students.
